SUMMARY:Navigating the Heterogeneous Future of Microelectronics
DESCRIPTION:[]Given the increasing complexity of microelectronics and the need for increased performance\, epitomized and brought into stark clarity by the increasing prevalence of AI\, there is a need for maturing cohesive roadmaps. In this talk\, we will describe a vision for how roadmapping is structured\, how we anticipate it to evolve\, and how we can all participate in this evolution.\nSpeaker(s): Ravi Mahajan\,\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/472083

SUMMARY:Electrical Design Considerations for Hazardous Location
DESCRIPTION:What is a hazardous location (hazloc) and what products service these areas? The National Electrical Code (NEC)\, article 500 describes a hazloc as an area where the possibility of fire and/or explosion exists. These scenarios can be created with the presence of combustible gases\, vapors\, dust and/or ignitable fibers or flyings. Of course\, an ignition source\, such as an open flame\, electric arc\, spark or a hot surface would be required as well. It is critical to have the right equipment installed in these areas in order to minimize personal safety risk and maximize operational efficiency. This presentation will go into further detail on the principles of hazloc areas\, NEC harsh and hazardous area classifications\, and the specialty products required to service these areas.\nAgenda:\nNo-host social at 5:30pm\nPresentation at 6:00pm\nDinner at 7:00pm\nPresentation continues at 7:45pm\nAdjourn by 8:30pm\nZio Fraedo’s\, 611 Gregory Lane\, Pleasant Hill\, California\, United States\, 94523

SUMMARY:Exploratorium After Dark: See for Yourself Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Uncover the secrets of the cosmos: what are the green patches on Mars? How do NASA spacecraft communicate with each other? And what was the final message of the Curiosity rover? Find the answers to these celestial mysteries—and more—at After Dark\, plus our Open Question session exploring health tech with researchers from UC Davis.\nOpen Question: Health Tech\n7 p.m.\nKanbar Forum\nWhen does tech make us healthier?\nTechnology has made health seemingly quantifiable and trackable\, but does it actually improve our well-being? Co-presented with UC Davis Grand Challenges\, this Open Question session invites you to explore the intersection of technology\, fitness\, and happiness.\nOur Panelists\nGözde Göncü-Berk\, PhD is a researcher\, designer\, and educator leading WearLab at UC Davis\, where she pioneers wearable technology design and smart textiles research. Her work focuses on developing textile-based sensors and actuators for physiological monitoring\, creating responsive wearables for health\, extreme environments\, and human performance such as anxiety-responsive clothing\, therapeutic smart gloves for pain management\, textile stretch/strain sensors to track body positions\, and many others.\nJonathon Schofield\, PhD researches human integration with assistive devices. Collaborating with clinicians and engineers at Shriners Children’s and UC Davis Health\, he combines clinical insights with engineering to address unmet needs in rehabilitation medicine\, biorobotic control\, and neural interfaces\, advancing intelligent technologies ranging from prosthetics limbs to cooperative robots.\nKatia Vega\, PhD is an associate professor at the department of design at UC Davis\, leading the Interactive Organisms Lab. She pioneers the integration of cosmetics with electronics\, makeup with biosensors\, and sustainable interfaces. Katia holds a PhD and master's degrees in computer science from PUC-Rio (Brazil) and a bachelor's degree from UNMSM (Peru). She was a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT Media Lab and a researcher at HKBU (Hong Kong).\nAlyssa Weakley\, PhD is a clinical neuropsychologist and assistant professor in the department of neurology at UC Davis School of Medicine. Alyssa’s research focuses on dementia\, cognitive rehabilitation\, and technology development and assessment. She has received funding from multiple sources including the National Institutes of Health for her remote caregiving technology supporting at-home independence of older adults living alone with dementia.\nModerator\nKevin Boyd leads the Exploratorium’s science writing team in developing exhibitions here at Pier 15 and for our partners worldwide. Since 2007\, he has worked on numerous biology exhibits\, including ¡Plantásticas! and Cells to Self. He studied microbiology at UC Santa Barbara\, and science writing at UC Santa Cruz.\nBldg: Exploratorium\, Pier 15\, (Embarcadero at Green Street)\, San Francisco\, California\, United States\, 94111
