Exploring Grid Inertia (and a Bit of Reactive Power) with Inverter-Based Resources: An Interactive Session

October 24 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

For a century, the grid's stability came for free from the heavy spinning mass of conventional generators. As solar, wind, and battery storage take over, that built-in inertia is disappearing, and the grid has to find new ways to stay steady.
Join Stanford IEEE's Power & Energy Society for an interactive session on grid inertia in an inverter-based world. We'll cover why inertia matters, what inverter-based resources can and can't do to replace it, and how reactive power support fits in. Along the way, we'll walk through real-world case studies of events on the grid and see what they can teach us. Expect live demos, open discussion, and plenty of questions. Open to all majors. No power systems background required.
